It is an unfortunate but undeniable fact that the United States is facing a serious mental health crisis.u00a0 According to CNN, 90% of adults believe that we are in a state of crisis, with specific groups being among the most at risk. u00a0This includes teenagers, minorities, and veterans, just to name a few.u00a0

The State of Rhode Island is experiencing this crisis at a rate comparable to that of the nation. u00a0The confluence of many factors: u00a0the Covid pandemic, toxic social media, political stressors, and isolation brought about from work-from-home have combined to create an atmosphere in society ripe for mental illness.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.u00a0 WPRO is committing to spend the month doing a deep dive into all facets of mental health issues.u00a0 Throughout the month, WPRO hosts will address the topic from a different point of view in an in-depth manner.u00a0 They will address the stigma and the solutions; they will talk to experts and those who are suffering.u00a0 The hope is that we can work together to begin a journey to mitigate the impact of mental illness in our community.
