"Edi Gathegi On Deck For X-Men: First Class"
Best known as soft-spoken vampire Laurent in “Twilight” and “New Moon,” the actor has just joined the growing cast of “X-Men: First Class,” according to E! Online. Gathegi is set to play Darwin, the first “biracial mutant,” who has the power of “reactive evolution.” (In human-speak, it means he can adapt to any situation or environment.) “For example, toss him in water, he grows gills. Drop him off somewhere in the middle of the night and he’ll develop night vision,” the website’s Gregory Imler writes. “And don’t bother trying to burn him…His skin will just become fire retardant.” Edi joins James McAvoy, Alice Eve (“She’s Out of Your League”), Michael Fassbender (“Inglourious Basterds”) and Aaron Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) in the Matthew Vaughn-directed film, due in theaters next summer.

The Internal Revenue Service is after Chris Tucker for over $11 million in back taxes, according to documents filed Tuesday with the L.A. County Recorder’s Office. The film star is revealed to owe $11,571,909.26 in federal taxes for the years 2001, 2002 and 2004 through 2006:

2004 — $55,544.84
2005 — $660,414.94
2006 — $1,788,080.91

Rapper-actor Common is moving from film to television with his first TV role in AMC’s pilot “Hell on Wheels.” The show is described as a contemporary western that centers on the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Common will play Elam, a freed slave who goes West to work on the railroad and find his place in the world. As a half black, half white man, he does not completely belong to either world. Common — whose real name is Lonnie Lynn — recently appeared in the movies “Just Wright” and “Date Night.”

Isaiah Mustafa, the former NFL player whose fame skyrocketed as “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like,” has just been cast opposite Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman in Warner Bros. upcoming comedy “Horrible Bosses.” The film follows three friends who conspire to murder their awful bosses for standing in the way of their happiness. Mustafa will portray a police officer.“It’s a smaller role, but who wouldn’t want to be in one of these funny, irreverent comedies?” Mustafa tells the Hollywood Reporter. “The cast is great. I’m playing a cop because I play these authoritative characters well. I don’t know exactly who I’m in the scene with — maybe Jennifer Aniston.” The casting in “Horrible Bosses” follows parts in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” as well as an upcoming guest spot on NBC’s action-comedy “Chuck.”

Terrell Owens, likely the most talented unemployed athlete in all of sport, signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. The deal is worth $4 million total, with $2 million guaranteed. On his Twitter page, fellow Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco made the announcement to his fans: "My homeboy is a Bengal all our games have been moved to pay-per-view." TO is now 36- years old, and the Bengals are the sixth team for whom he's played. Playing together with Ochocinco represents an intriguing and potentially deadly combination of receivers. This adds to the firepower from the signing of Antonio Bryant in March. Owens is taking a paycut from his last gig with the Buffalo Bills. The Bills paid Owens $6.25 million with a $4 million signing bonus.

"Rihanna On Deck For Battleship"
Rihanna will take her first step into Hollywood with a role in director Peter Berg's science-fiction-tinged board-game adaptation, "Battleship." There's no word on how her character factors into the story, but Variety confirms that the "Love the Way You Lie" singer is joining the cast that already includes Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård, who play brothers and naval officers assigned to a multinational task force charged with repelling alien invaders. Also cast is Tadanobu Asano, who is perhaps best known for his leading roles in "Ichi the Killer" and Genghis Khan biopic "Mongol." Shooting for Battleship is expected to start soon, with a planned release on May 25, 2012.

"Wyclef For President Of Haiti?"
Rumors of the former Fugees frontman flirting with politics have been rampant ever since last year's earthquake in his native Haiti in which his organization, Yele Haiti was on the frontlines of aid. And now, reports the Associated Press, Jean's family says he's considering it, but hasn't decided on whether to seek out the country's five-year term. "Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward ... If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately," read a family statement on Monday. If he does decide to run, Wyclef would have until August 7 to declare his campaign. He would also need to prove that he has lived in Haiti for five consecutive years and owns property there. Wyclef recently told CNN that he is still mulling over the idea. "I can't sing forever," he said. The rapper/producer also took to Twitter last week to "clear up the rumors." "I have not announce [sic] to the Press that I'm running for President of Haiti," he tweeted.

DMX's freedom is pretty short-lived these days. The controversial rapper is headed back to jail, yet again. He surrendered to a Los Angeles judge on Monday to begin a 90-day sentence for a reckless driving conviction back in 2002.DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was just released earlier this month from an Arizona jail. He served four months for violating the terms of his probation from a 2009 conviction for cruelty to animals, theft and drug charges.The Yonkers, N.Y., native's latest arrest is a legacy violation from a 2002 reckless driving conviction. He received probation at the time, but his surmounting legal woes warranted a violation.According to DMX's manager, his client is just eager to get his life back on track and immerse himself in his craft.

"Inception Still At The Top"
Leonardo DiCaprio's "Inception" won the weekend box office battle to stay on top, despite the release of Angelina Jolie's new action-thriller "Salt". "Inception" remained at #1 for the second-straight weekend with $43.5 million, according to studio estimates. That brings its 10-day total to $143.7 million. In at #2 was Jolie's spy caper "Salt", raking in $36.5 million. The movie stars Jolie as a CIA operative who goes rogue after she's accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. Coming in at #3 with $24.1 million was Steve Carell's family hit "Despicable Me." The animated comedy raised its domestic total to $161.7 million. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" dropped one spot to #4 with $9.6 million, while "Toy Story 3" rounds out the top 5 with $9 million.

A spokesman for Diddy’s company says the bill as a “bureaucratic error,” insisting the fine was paid by a partner firm three years ago and claiming city officials must have failed to update their records.A city spokesman has told the New York Daily News the issue is now under review.

"Dr Dre Is Being Sued"
Dr. Dre and his company Aftermath Entertainment has been sued by a California recording studio for failure to pay a bill. Paramount Recording Studios is claiming that the rapper/producer skipped out on paying for sessions between April 2009 and June 2010, according to Allhiphop.com. Dre – whose real name is Andre Young – is facing charges of up to $1,220,500.Dr. Dre had agreed to settle the bill with Paramount Recording Studios by July 13th, but failed to do so, resulting in the lawsuit filed July 23rd in Los Angeles Superior Court.The former NWA rapper has recorded at Paramount for at least ten years, allowing him to receive a cheaper rate for recording at the studio.

"Mario Punches Soundman"
R&B singer Mario apparently flipped out at the Rochester Music Fest after the sound engineer attempted to get him offstage by cutting the sound. Mario had apparently gone over his allotted time and the tech proceeded to pull the plug and kill the lights. Mario allegedly then walked over to the engineer and punched him so hard he almost fell off of the stage. The singer was then escorted out of the arena by security.No statement from Mario or his camp regarding the incident has been released at this time.

British supermodel Naomi Campbell has requested a later date for her testimony in the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, a spokesman for the Special Court for Sierra Leone said on Friday.Prosecutors want Campbell to testify over a “blood diamond” they allege Taylor gave her. She was due to appear in court July 29 and the spokesman said the new date “is not expected to be more than a few days later.”The prosecution has said Campbell could provide material evidence to rebut Taylor’s claims that he never possessed rough diamonds. They accuse Taylor of taking diamonds to South Africa to buy weapons, which he denies. In January, they said that during a visit to South Africa in 1997 Taylor gave Campbell a large rough cut diamond after a dinner hosted by Nelson Mandela. On trial in The Hague, Taylor denies all 11 charges of instigating murder, rape, mutilation, sexual slavery and conscription of child soldiers during wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone in which more than 250,000 people were killed.

Following reports that Paula Patton had been in talks to join the cast, executive producer Neal Baer has confirmed that the “Precious” star has officially signed on, according to Variety.Patton will play the show’s new assistant district attorney Mikki Von. “When I saw Paula Patton give that terrific performance [in Precious], I knew she’d be perfect for SVU’s new ADA,” Baer said. “She’s funny, warm and witty.” Mikki, who is described as “charming and savvy,” follows the departure of former ADA Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March), and for a split second last season, Jo Marlowe, played by Sharon Stone. The new season of “Law & Order: SVU” will premiere on Sept. 23 on NBC.

Foxy Brown was arrested on Wednesday and charged with violating an order of protection from a neighbor. Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, reportedly had a heated argument with nemesis Arlene Raymond, a neighbor, who has a restraining order against her. Sources state, there was lots of name-calling, the F-bomb and B-word were bandied about and heated threats of physical violence. Onlookers had to step in and hold Brown back before she was able to put her dukes up and lay one on Raymond again. Raymond was the victim of Brown's wrath back in 2007: When the fed up neighbor complained to Brown that her car stereo music was too loud, Brown retaliated a few days later by hitting the woman with a Blackberry phone, which cut her lip and knocked out a tooth. The "Ill Na Na" has been released on $50,000 bail. Brown's manager, Chaz Williams, denied the charges.

Carmine Agnello, 24, is attempting to launch a career under the name Carmine Gotti. Agnello blasted rapper Rick Ross in the New York Daily News for using the moniker on his latest album which was released yesterday (July 21st). "My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname. That was my grandfather's life," Agnello said of John Gotti, who earned the nickname “Teflon Don” after winning multiple acquittals in the 1980’s and 1990’s. "He should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask 'If I could use the nickname,'" Agnello said. "I think he's a great artist, but you can't just start calling yourself that to sell records ...He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself."According to reports, Agnello’s father Carmine Agnello Sr., who married John Gotti’s daughter Victoria, is still a reputed member of the Gambino crime in New York. Basically there will be no Tiny.For the last two seasons the show followed the lives of Antonia “Toya” Carter, ex-wife of currently incarcerated rapper Lil’ Wayne, and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, the fiancée of recently released rapper T.I.Moving forward, Carter says she’ll be featured in a spin-off titled “Toya’s Family Affair,” which will focus on her life, her daughter with Lil’ Wayne and her relationships. But don’t worry, Cottle will make guest appearances. “We just decided to kind of part ways because she is doing her own thing with her music career, her kids and she’s about to get married,” Carter said in a recent interview with radio/TV personality Ms. Drama. “Some things you have to just keep private and I understand that as a friend.” Carter hinted that her new show might possibly include her interactions with some of the baby-mamas of Wayne’s other children. “Me, Lauren [London], Nivea and Sarah, we kind of always get together to keep the kids together so they can know each other,” Carter said. “The situation is not ideal but at this point it is what it is and we try to make the best of it.”

The rapper, who was released shortly after his arrest yesterday morning, blasted the officer who detained him and posted police officer’s badge number. “Some punk b***h rookie cop named Fisher #10026 made the arrest of his bulls**t career today, arresting the Notorious Ice T for no seatbelt,” Ice-T Tweeted. According to Ice-T, there was a heated exchange between himself and the officer , who immediately recognized him.“I know who you are and I don't give a f**k,” Ice-T tweeted. “That was right after I called him a punk b***h. Then they questioned me about FLTG.” Ice-T also chastised media outlets for reporting on his arrest and making it national news, for what considered a petty infraction. “The fact that it made national news in 10 min. Snoop Dogg has opted to discontinue a clothing line that he founded in 2008, according to reports.The rapper launched The Rich and Infamous Clothing Line in 2008 with much fanfare and promotion courtesy of Snoop Dogg's star power. However, he's canceled the line, according to wooha.com. Snoop has closed the online store, website and will not service traditional retail outlets either.Representatives for Snoop didn't reveal why Rich and Infamous was halted, but Snoop suggested in a previous interview that the recession had taken its toll on the clothing line. "The recession is affecting everybody," he told Hollyscoop.com in 2009. "We're trying to keep it one hundred percent and do what we're doing and try to keep the prices a little lower. [We're] trying to keep it cost sufficient for what [we're] doing." The Rich and infamous was a partnership with Robert Thorn Company. The collection debuted at the acclaimed Magic fashion tradeshow in Las Vegas in 2008.

"Inception Tops Weekend The Box Office"
Leonardo DiCaprio dropped another mind-bending film over the week with Christopher Nolan, titled "Inception", and as expected it topped the weekend box office with $60.4 million. "Despicable Me" starring Steve Carell, slipped to #2 this weekend with $32.7 million. In 10 days, it's earned $118.4 million. In at #3 was Disney's family adventure, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", which took in just $17.4 million over the weekend and $24.5 since its Wednesday premier. Twilight Saga: Eclipse" slipped from #2 to #4 this weekend with another $13.5 million under its belt, taking its domestic total to $264.9 million. And rounding out the top 5 is "Toy Story 3" with $11.7 million in its fifth weekend.

Alicia Keys has parted ways with her manager of more than a decade in order to take more control of her own career.The R&B singer has worked with Jeff Robinson since her early days in the music industry, but the pair has now ended their professional relations hip by "mutual agreement". Keys will still consult Robinson on her future albums, but will now per sonally handle more important decisions on touring, music licensing, and film and TV deals. "Lil Wayne Owes The Feds Some Loot"
After gaining the attention of fans earlier this week with a heart felt letter from behind bars, incarcerated New Orleans rapper Lil' Wayne is making headlines in a less favorable way. The IRS created a special tax unit in 2007 to investigate entertainers and athletes, and Lil Wayne was recently discovered to owe more than $1.13 million in back taxes.The imprisoned rapper owes from 2004, 2005, and 2007. In June, the “man” filed a lien against his charity, One Family Foundation in Florida. “A few years ago, they concluded that athlete and entertainer taxes might be escaping their radar. So they reinstated a division to only deal with this area,” a rep from the global touring and accounting company RZO Productions said. Other artists who have been found out include Suge Knight, DMX, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Swizz Beatz, and Method Man. The IRS is also investigating rappers who use their charities for capital gain. This is not the first time Wayne’s been busted for taxes. In 2008, a lien was filed against him for almost $1 million in back taxes.

His most recent come-back movie credit was his depiction of a drug dealer in Antoine Fuqua's film "Brooklyn's Finest," co-starring Don Cheadle and Richard Gere.Snipes' argument for not paying the feds at the time was that he was a "fiduciary of God who is a non-taxpayer." He also contended that he was a foreign diplomat. None of the actor's excuses held water with the Ocala, Fla., jury who convicted him.

"Too Short Arrested And Released Faces Battery Charges"
Bay Area rapper Too Short was reportedly arrested on late Wednesday (July 14) in Boise, Idaho after he got into an altercation with security at the Knitting Factory following a concert.According to the Associated Press, a fight broke out between the rapper (real name: Todd Shaw), his associate and members of the venue's security detail after they told Too Short he couldn't bring underage girls backstage.Three employees at the Knitting Factory told police they were punched and kicked by Shaw and another man, 38-year-old Michael Walton. However, no one was seriously injured.Too Short, 44, was arrested and faces three counts of misdemeanor battery. So was Walton. Both men were arrested early Thursday morning (July 15) and later released on bond.They are scheduled back in court on August 4th. Tashera Simmons, wife of rapper DMX, has found a co-author to help write her book about living as the wife of the multiplatinum rapper. According to AllHipHop.com, Tashera has enlisted Aliya S. King, writer of books for Frank Lucas and Faith Evans, who also released a recent book titled "Platinum," about rappers and their wives. “When I first met Aliya, I was in a state where I was trapped and she was the first person that kind of opened me up. She started asking me questions about what it was like to be in the light of a super star, rap star," said Simmons of King, who was writing a story for VIBE magazine regarding rappers' wives. "Ne-Yo Ordered To Stand Trial"
Lawyers for a Washington state promotion company suing Ne-Yo say the artist has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly backing out of a 2009 New Year’s Eve performance in the Seattle area. The lawsuit states that Kenyohn Clark of Maryland-based Wet Entertainment and booking agent Mike Esterman reached an agreement to pay Ne-Yo a total of $140,000 for the gig at Bellevue’s Meydenbauer Center. The singer was allegedly paid $95,000 up front for the appearance, but, according to the lawsuit, he never showed up.Esterman, also named in the lawsuit, is being sued for $1 million in damages for not ensuring Ne-Yo’s appearance and for allegedly failing to return the fees paid by Wet Entertainment. In February of 2009, Esterman told MTV News that the lawsuit is without merit. “I still don’t know anything about the details,” he said. “All that I know is that this is a frivolous lawsuit. The guy is looking for a free payday. The promoter is looking for a lottery ticket to make some big money off of a big name.”Bowie & Jensen, the law firm representing Wet Entertainment, issued a press release stating Ne-Yo and his team will indeed go to trial in Annapolis at the end of July in Anne Arundel County

The bill also features popular Israeli funk/rap band, Hadag Nahash. A number of prominent artists have canceled performances in Israel in recent months, including Carlos Santana, Bono/U2, Gil-Scott Heron, The Pixies and Elvis Costello, in support of a Palestinian boycott against the country. The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel was established in 2004, to protest the Israeli’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Apparently, the singer is also shooting Transformers 3, and had to take a break from filming to begin shooting the start of the upcoming street racing film, tentively titled Fast Five. According to reports, the new film will star Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, both of whom will reprise their roles as Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner.

Police in Akron, Ohio are investigating Gucci Mane protege, Waka Flocka Flame, after a woman alleged that a sexual assault took place on his tour bus. Despicable Me was a hit at the box office over the weekend, making an impressive debut in 3D animated films for Universal Pictures ... and beating out a brand new film in the "Predator" franchise. Despicable Me" took in $60.1 million. for the number one spot. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse fell to second place in its sophomore weekend collecting an estimated $33.4M propelling the 12-day haul to $237 million. Fox's sci-fi reboot Predators landed in third place opening to an estimated $25.3 million. The Last Airbender tumbled into fourth place taking in an estimated $17.2M in its second weekend. The M. Night Shyamalan-directed sci-fi actioner raised its 11-day total to a solid $100.2 million. Rounding out the top five was Grown Ups which took in $16.4 million boosting the 17-day tally to $111.3 million.

A hotel in Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus said it will sue Jennifer Lopez for $40 million after she cancelled a concert there for “political” reasons, press reports said Sunday. Jaleel White, best known for his role as Steve Urkel on “Family Matters,” is being investigated by California police for allegedly assaulting his baby mama. Sources say that the alleged victim accuses White of punching her in one of her breast implants two weeks ago while they were driving on Pacific Coast Highway with an infant in the car. “We’re told, she claims when they got home White allegedly slapped her, and pushed her into a toilet so hard it broke the tank,” the Web site reported. “Sources connected with White’s baby mama, Bridget Hardy, tell TMZ Hardy is in fact the alleged victim. We’re told she did not report any injuries.”The alleged victim filed a report with the LAPD on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, a rep for White had this to say, “There was absolutely no battery … no abuse … and the incident never happened. …This is just a ploy in an ongoing custody battle over their young daughter to tarnish his name.”

We hear that Attorney Shawn Chapman Holley is no longer representing Lindsay Lohan. The exit comes hours after the lawyer issued a statement criticizing the actress’ 90-day sentence for violating probation. “I can confirm [Holley] is not representing Lindsay at this point. Lindsay is in the process of hiring new counsel,” Lohan’s New York lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, told the Daily News. Ovadia said she wasn’t sure what caused the split and couldn’t confirm a popular website report that Lindsay hired Tiffany Feder-Cohen, who passed the California bar in November. It has also been reported that Lohan is vowing to appeal the judge’s sentence – even though Holley’s statement said she was “prepared to serve her jail time.”In her statement, Holley claimed that Lohan – who repeatedly skipped alcohol counseling sessions after getting probation for two DUIs – is the victim of reverse celebrity justice.“We believe that the penalty is far harsher than what others would have received under similar circumstances,” Holley wrote. Lohan, 24, was sentenced to three consecutive 30-day terms for breaking her probation – plus 90 days of rehab. She sobbed for mercy in court on Tuesday, claiming the court had never made it clear when she was supposed to show up for alcohol counseling.

"Snoops Daughter's Battle With Illness Saved His Marriage"
Snoop Dogg has credited his daughter Cori’s battle with lupus with bringing the rapper closer to his wife Shante, insisting the life-threatening illness helped to save their faltering marriage. The rap superstar, real name Calvin Broadus, filed for divorce from his wife of seven years in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple reunited months later, prompting Snoop to withdraw the legal petition, and they renewed their vows in 2008. Snoop admits the turning point in their relationship came when young Cori was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder in 2005 – and her subsequent health battle made the hip-hop star and his wife realize they had to stay “together forever.”Shante tells People magazine, “Without (Snoop), I don’t know what I’d have done. It’s amazing how this all turned out. We were gonna get a divorce. But we wouldn’t have gotten through it (the lupus diagnosis) that way.” Snoop adds, “That’s what it boiled down to. Cori’s lupus showed us we need to be together forever.” The rapper reveals the couple had turned to a marriage counselor to help them overcome their troubles and he would often escape to the recording studio to cry and gather his emotions. He says, “You always think it’s gonna happen to someone else. Some days in the studio, I’d just cry. It was the only zone I had to express myself.” However, he’s in awe of how strong Cori, now 11, has been throughout the health crisis – despite struggling with the side effects of the disorder, which caused her hair to fall out and affected her weight. Snoop explains, “My daughter is the love of my life. When she’d lay in bed saying, ‘My brain hurts’, it bothered me so much. I felt helpless… (But) she’s the toughest little thing I’ve ever met, even with the needles.” And Cori has managed to keep her lupus under control to enjoy a normal childhood. Her proud father adds, “She’s on the honour roll, playing volleyball and softball, living life. She has all this joy. In the beginning lupus was winning. But now Cori is.”

"Chris Rock And Sony Getting Sued Over Death At A Funeral"
A woman is seeking $20 million in damages against Chris Rock, Sony Pictures and other producers of the April comedy “Death at a Funeral” claiming the film ripped off her 1995 book about her embarrassment at a funeral in Jamaica when she was stripped of her clothing. Pamela Lawrence, who is representing herself in court, is also claiming racism, a plot to eradicate the female population of urban cities and allegations of inside jokes within the movie that were specifically intended to humiliate her, Reuters reports. The 54-page complaint comes stuffed with applicable laws and case citations (although none are required in complaints), copyright registrations, numerous exhibits and, Reuters notes, a frame work intended to bypass the legal pitfalls that typically trip up those asserting idea theft in Hollywood. Lawrence goes beyond mere copyright infringement to assert breach of implied contract, unfair competition, interference with prospective economic advantage, tortious breach of confidence, deceit and fraud. Lawrence is demanding $20 million in damages, 66% of gross profits and an injunction. Among the many defendants are Sony, Columbia Pictures, Tristar, Target Media, Screen Gems, Lawrence Malkin, Frank Oz, Chris Rock and Neil LaBute. Sony had no comment.

Eclipse, the third installment of the five-film Twilight franchise, debuted to heated anticipation and generated a stunning $161 million in ticket sales in its first five days of release from Wednesday to Sunday, according to estimates. M. Night Shyamalan enjoyed the best opening - and total gross - for any film in six years with the 3D fantasy adventure The Last Airbender which debuted in second place with an estimated $40.7million over the Friday-to-Sunday period. Sliding down to number three over the holiday weekend was Toy Story 3 which pulled in an estimated $30.2 million in its third week making its cume soar to an amazing $289 million so far. Sliding into fourth place was Grown Ups which grossed an estimated $18.5 million. And rounding out the top five was Knight and Day which took in an estimated $10.2 million this weekend and lifted its 12-day sum to $45.5 million.

Russell, who was just recently fired as starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, was arrested in Mobile, Alabama on Monday for possession of a controlled substance.According to the Mobile Press-Register that controlled substance is … codeine syrup. Mobile County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lori Myles says the 24-year-old former LSU star was arrested at his home during an undercover investigation. He graduated from high school in Mobile. Online records show he was booked into the Mobile jail and released on $2,500 bond. The Raiders released Russell in May, just three years after being the No. 1 overall draft pick. He won only seven of his 25 starts and was eventually benched. He’s been criticized for lack of a work ethic. Russell’s arrest is not expected to impact his NFL standing but may impact his signing salary as he shops for a new team. Investigators did not explain today why they launched an undercover operation regarding Russell.

"Michael Vick Releases Statement"
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick released a statement Thursday saying he had “nothing to do” with a shooting outside a restaurant after a birthday party in his honor there last week. In light of surveillance tape that shows Vick left the Virginia Beach club only three minutes before the shooting, and not 10 minutes earlier as he had previously stated, the athlete says he stands by his original timeline and is continuing to cooperate with authorities. “On June 25, 2010, I attended a birthday party held in my honor at The Guadalajara’s Restaurant in Virginia Beach, Virginia,” Vick stated. “After I left the event, I learned that a man was shot outside the restaurant. I want to assure everyone that I had nothing to do with that incident. I left the restaurant prior to it occurring and did not witness what happened.” The victim was not identified by police but it has been reported that he was Quanis Phillips, one of the co-defendants in the dogfighting case that sent Vick to prison. A hospital spokesman confirmed that Phillips was treated and released last Friday. Vick remains on probation and part of his terms of release is he not allowed to associate with anyone convicted of a felony.

"Family Emergency Has Drake Canceling European Tour"
Drake has cancelled the European leg of his Away From Home tour so that he can be by his mother’s side as she undergoes emergency surgery for an undisclosed illness. “Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated,” Drake said via a statement. “In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years.“I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy during this time.”Drake has canceled a total of 10 dates on the European run of the tour, which was supposed to start today (July 2nd) in Norway. Shows in Paris, Amsterdam and London are already being scheduled for November 2010, where tickets will be honored for the rescheduled date. "Lil Wayne Gets Probation In Arizona Case"
Lil Wayne was sentenced to three years probation by an Arizona judge on Wednesday (June 30) for a drug arrest in Yuma in January 2008. Lil Weezy (real name: Dwayne Carter, Jr.) was arrested in Yuma, Arizona in 2008 after authorities found marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and an unregistered .40-caliber pistol on his tour bus, which was stopped and searched at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. Last month, the rapper struck a deal with the prosecution, in which he would plead guilty to one count of possession of a dangerous drug and dodge jail time. Wayne's probation will begin upon his release from Rikers Island, where he is currently halfway through an unrelated year-long sentence for weapons possession. "We're quite glad that we were able to wrap everything up," Wayne's lawyer said. "It's a favorable plea agreement that will allow Mr. Carter to pursue his career."

R. Kelly returned from World Cup festivities in South Africa to a fresh lawsuit in the United States. Anthony Navarro, a former employee, is accusing the R&B singer of failing to compensate him for the overtime hours he earned in 2007 while Kelly was on tour.In his legal papers, filed in an Illinois court, Navarro claims he and his fellow workers were sometimes forced to toil more than 80 hours a week to help with studio and tour preparations. They were reportedly contracted to be paid time-and-a-half for the additional hours but Navarro alleges he was only paid at the normal rate. Navarro has also named Kelly’s production company, Bass Productions Ltd., in the lawsuit and has cited the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act and the Illinois Minimum Wage Law in his court filing. He is seeking undisclosed damages and court costs.

According to the Detroit News' Tax Watchdog blog, Swizzy (real name: Kasseem Dean) owes more than $2.2 million to the state of New York and the IRS for delinquent state and federal taxes.
Here's the rundown, according to the paper:
- The IRS filed a $652,727 lien against Swizz Beatz, real name Kasseem Dean, on June 3 with the Rockland County (N.Y.) Clerk. According to the lien, which you can see here, he owes income taxes from 2008.
- The state of New York filed a $162,300 tax warrant against Dean and his ex-wife Feb. 4, 2009, with the New York County Clerk.
- The IRS filed a $556,986 lien against Dean and his ex-wife on Aug. 18, 2008, in Rockland County. They owe 2007 income taxes, according to this public record.
- The IRS filed an $842,645 lien against Dean and his ex-wife March 4, 2008, with the Somerset County (N.J.) Clerk. According to this lien, they owe income taxes from 2006.
"We have been discussing the issue with the government for years and are currently negotiating an amicable resolution of the dispute," Swizz's attorney said to TheBoomBox.com.The producer has not publicly commented on the situation.
